The Quiet Day Retreat will begin at 8:30am with Holy Communion
and will conclude at 12:30pm with a simple lunch of vegetable, or other meatless soup and crackers. The retreat leader will be Carol Scott, author, musician, and teacher who serves as a Spiritual Director for Tulsa Diocesan Ignatian retreats and as a coordinator for city-wide inter-denominational prayer groups. Her workshops on prayer and spiritual growth spring from study and membership in a contemplative prayer community. In 1966 she experienced a Holy Spirit encounter that markedly transformed her life. The message “Be Still and Know I Am God” was birthed in that experience. All (men as well as women) are welcome to attend this Lenten Season Quiet Day.
January & February
The CHSA Nominating Committee for the 2008 Vestry Members Class of 2011 ballot, will distribute, a form titled “Parishioners Vestry Nomination Form With Criteria” at both services (8am and 10:30am) this Sunday, January 20. These forms list the criteria for choosing members of the Vestry. The Nominating Committee has chosen a list of potential vestry candidates and now it is important that members of the Parish add their nominee selections to that list.
Members of the Parish may self-nominate if they feel the Lord is calling them to a season of serving on the CHSA Vestry, or they may submit the name of a parishioner they believe to be qualified to serve and who agrees to have his/her name submitted for consideration. The Nominating Committee is asking that submission of names be returned to the church by Sunday, January 27. The Nominating Committee will then contact all whose names have been submitted and are qualified, as well as those the Committee is considering, and from these 2 lists, the 2008 ballot will be set. We will vote to fill 5 open positions on the CHSA Vestry at the Annual Parish Meeting. That meeting will be Sunday, March 2, 2008
If you know you will not be at church this coming Sunday (January 20) and you wish to submit the name of a person you believe qualified to serve as a member of the Vestry, please call the church office and a nomination form will be mailed to you. Remember all nominations must be received at the church by Sunday, January 27.

November & December
A Call To Arms for all of God's Saints
Greetings, Holy Spirit brothers and sisters,
Truly, God cares for our small body of Christ. Amen! We have survived two and a half years since we decided to remain guardians of our orthodox Christian faith.
Jesus admonishes us “to keep” His commands and truth (Luke 11:28; John 8:51). The Greek verb also means “protect,” “guard.” Saint Augustine described Christians as “guardians of truth and followers of right.”
Guarding is the charisma that I see defining our congregation. We stand firm, guarding the faith delivered to us by the apostles and by the Church fathers down to our time. We guard the faith being passed to our children and grandchildren. We offer freely to others the faith that we guard.
Guarding is not a passive activity. I well remember guard duty in the Army, especially as an infantryman in Korean War combat. We guarded against a real enemy, bent on doing me and my comrades violent harm. We guarded against sneak penetrations and frontal assaults. The most dastardly act on the front lines was to shirk guard duty. How much more august is our calling to guard the Church that Jesus gave to us.
Church of the Holy Spirit Anglican consciously and decisively took up guarding the faith in July 2005. We have, I believe, performed well while we “wandered in the desert”--like Moses’ Israelites. Now we have crossed the Jordon and have our first taste in December of our “promised” church home. Praise God!
But lo and behold, we discover as the Israelites did: much work is still required. The church campus that we inherited is a work in progress. In real fact, we only have a toehold on our property; our possession is not yet secure.
Here are some hard facts.
1. The City of Tulsa gave us a three-month “temporary occupancy” permit. One month has already passed, and we have a long list of tasks to complete. If not, city officials warn that the permit will not be extended after February.
2. The Finance Committee and Bishop Cox have informed us that we need $75,000.00 to complete necessary building and furnishing plans. Much of this amount reflects a shortfall on our $150,000 capital campaign from a year ago. In addition, the Fire Marshall requires us to install a fire hydrant, requiring excavation under 41st Street. It adds significantly to our final tally.
3. We are not a wealthy body of Christians; we must sacrifice to complete our church campus. To stand guard firmly on 41st Street, we need volunteer labor to reduce contractual costs.
4. Many parishioners devoted time and talent over the past year and a half. Their labor and our financial contributions have brought us this far.
5. The entire parish must mobilize over the next few months to bring us truly home and truly into healthy service to our Lord.
Father Briane has asked me to assist our junior warden, Nancy Sullenger, in launching this concerted effort. In the next few days you will receive a list of tasks. Pray over it and take courage to offer your labor and love“Lord, where can I help?” Some tasks require specialized skills or knowledge. I am relying on volunteers and those on whom I will call. If possible, we will accomplish our shared task without calling a meeting.
We will celebrate our completed work during our annual parish meeting in February.
Church of the Holy Spirit Anglican on 41stStreet is a portal into the arms of our Savior. We stand guard--defending our orthodox faith and welcoming our neighbors in love.
In our love for God and for each other,
Edgar P. Sneed

Gift Ideas: School supplies, small toys, (no war related items guns, toy soldiers, knifes), hygiene items, hard candy, flashlights with extra batteries are just few ideas. CHS Bazaar
Saturday, November 17th
Bazaar is from 9 am to 5 pm and anyone who is bringing anything for the Bazaar, bring it Thursday and Friday, November 15, and 16. Baked goods to be brought preferably on Friday and very early Saturday morning.
CHS Women Bible Study Group will be starting a new study. We will be starting with a new study (date to be announced) on DANIEL - Lives of Integrity Words of Prophecy by Beth Moore. This is another in-depth study which is 12 weeks long.
I would like to announce it now because we are coming to the end of JESUS THE ONE AND ONLY and I just wanted everyone to know that they are invited to join us, if they can, on Thursday Mornings at 9:30 am through 12:00 pm.
This 12 session study, unique from Beth’s previous Bible Studies, falls in two parts and can be used as one or two studies. We will be doing the whole thing. The first portion, from
Daniel chapters 1 – 6 deals with Daniel’s life as he faced the kind of pressures and temptations Christians encounter today. Daniel models how to develop enduring integrity in an enticing world. The second portion, chapters 7 – 12 explores thrilling prophecies from the time of Daniel through the second coming of Christ.
When the date is announced I will have workbooks available to purchase (the cost is approximately $15.00) and each week you get homework and study the bible and then we will see a video session where Beth points out God’s teaching.
This is a fun group of women who enjoy fellowship and studying God’s word – it is amazing over the years how someone as “green” as me has learned so much. We do not rush, we take in and also pray for each other.
You do not have to be a scholar to study with us, I am not the teacher I am the facilitator (I do the coffee and welcoming) God does the teaching through Beth Moore’s study.
Everyone is welcome, come with a heart that is teachable and a smile and enjoy these studies. We would love to have you. Believe me you will meet God through His word, it is so exciting.
