Church of the Holy Spirit and St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church announce a special ecumenical evening discussion with guest speaker, Dr. Péter Török, Professor and Dean of Sociology at Semmelweis University in Budapest Hungary . The title of Dr. Török’s talk is “Central European Christianity Under Communism: Sociological and Personal Reflections”

Dr. Török received his Ph.D. in the sociology of religion from the University of Toronto and is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the scholarly journal, Religion and Society in Central and Eastern Europe . The author of several books, Török’s primary research interests include church-state relationships and religious community research in the region. He is widely considered the leading expert on the emergence of new religious movements in Hungary following the collapse of the Soviet Union .

Persecuted for his Roman Catholic faith by the Communists, Török was able to escape the Iron Curtain through Austria with support from the Church. He has been married for 12 years to Agnes. The couple has two children, Andras and Kristof (Fr Turley’s godchildren. Kristof was named after Christopher Turley).
